A Chinese cartoon that called Train Hero (Hight-speed Railway Man literally from its Chinese name Gao Tie Xia) , which hasn’t been published yet, has been drawing lots of attention on Chinese Internet in the last month. A Chinese cartoon able to catch such attention seems a good thing, but in this case it’s the opposite. People are blaming this cartoon with anger, for its extreme similarities to Japanese amine Hikarian.

The two were got compared in a video in synchronization, and the similarities are showed scene by scene, which makes the rip-off unarguable. Even the map are the same, and of cause it’s Japan map. The funniest things are that both of the main characters eat onigiri, and the quantity of onigiri they ate are the same, 270. A Internet user said ironically, “Sad, the maker even don’t have the courage to change the onigiri for steamed stuffed bun.”

I don’t know much about Gary Faye Locke, the new USA Ambassador to China (knew this a day ago), other than that he is a Chinese American and a politician of high position in USA government. I think most Chinese are in the same situation as me in this case. Mr Locke just arrived in Beijing yesterday for his new mission, so it’s too early to predict what kind of influence he would bring to China and USA, but the influence has began, just on his journey to Beijing.

It’s all caused by this seemingly ordinary photo of him, taken by Adsage Tang who’s on a business trip from China. Mr Tang published this photo on China’s biggest twitter alike service website weibo.com with these words, “Came across USA’s new Ambassador to China Gary Faye Locke at Seattle Airport coffee shop, who’s with his wife and three kids.Guessed he’s on his way for his new mission to Beijing. Good luck to him”. Twenty minutes after some comments appeared about how astonishing for seeing this photo he added: ” The funny thing is that Ambassador Locke showed a piece of paper which looks like a coupon to the waiter. The waiter has a close look and gave it back to Ambassador and said it’s not acceptable. Ambassador Locke was not angry at all and took back the coupon with smile and gave the waiter his credit car instead. Sign, American waiter even don’t treated the Ambassador a little special. This remind me a line from a Chinese movie, a translation official said: “I never pay for dining in restaurants in the city”

In just two days, this post got forwarded 30,105 times and have received 7,275 comments, and data is still rising.

You people out of China might think this photo is too ordinary and can’t see much out of it. but for Chinese it’s shocking, below are some comments selected from that post showing why they’re shocked.

” no police cars leaded the way? unbelievable!”

“no guards? unbelievable!”

“An Ambassador that uses coupon (for coffee)!”

“USA is really a poor country…no way to be comparable with China. In China, officials act like gods.”

“Capitalist countries are so shabby. Guess it’s relevant to USA’s debt crisis”.

“An Ambassador with such equipments? shame. The chief of our small village is more impressive. so stop the comparing, socialist system is much more advanced.”

“sign, this is a country of equality, and now he’s come to an unequal one, and just 2 kilometers away from me.”

“When our public servants could behave this way when they go for new mission, and no those huge welcome banquets that waste countless public money again? ”

” no one to hold a umbrella for him? People in the coffee shop are not asked by police to leave for Ambassador’s security? Roads not blocked for his special car? No police cars following to protect him? No Primary students in red scarf there standing in two lines to welcome him? He has to carry his bag by himself? Isn’t Brother Gary Faye’s level higher than a Chinese County head? so it’s important to choose a right boss.”

“Haha, interesting, a sarcasm to all China government officials.”

” Does he pay for his food with public funs? he even has to carry his bag, and no guards and secretaries by side? how could he be an Ambassador like this, can he get his work done?”

” Just carry a shoulder bag for new position, even don’t have a donkey….really fresh to see…”

” we are all human living on the Earth, why the difference between China and USA’s government officials is so huge?”

………………….

too many comments to translate, and they are more funny and more ironic in Chinese.

Everybody, first of all, thank you for keeping coming back to this little site. If I am not wrong I’ve stop updating it for almost three months, except once in July. Ive got tried of writing about China’s rubbish knockoff electronics, though some of them are interesting, but most are not, and definitely I have other more meaningful things to do. So from now on I would bring you some more funny stuff other than knockoff products, hopping to give you a fresh angle for you to look into China, this wonderful land, as we Chinese calls it.

This time the topic is about a girl who’s wearing sexy and weired design swimwear alike at a Mcdonald’s in Beijing. Forgive me I don’t have enough words to describe it, just watch the video for more details. Personally I like this girl, for the piece of cloth, her courage she have, her calmness at her big success of catching public attention, and the last and the most important, the possibility of the wearing style she created becoming a trend in fashion…

This video is blowing the Chinese web, re-micro-blogged by the people with the most spirit of entertainment. Some people were angry and questioned why she covered some positions that shouldn’t be covered, and some more detailed oriented people just kindly reminded them even if she didn’t do that, she really didn’t have much more to show you… So what’s your opinion?

Besides consumer electronics industry, cloning activities are also very active in Internet field in China. Almost every creative website got cloned in China. Recently a frequently discussed topic in China’s Internet industry is a new website Zhihu.com, which is a clone of Quora. Zhihu is still in its beta version, and not open to the public, and content could be only seem by logined users. Only invited people can register.

Now it’s funny that Chinese developer Huacnlee started a project called Zheye. Zhuhu Zheye together is a phrase from ancient Chinese. Huacnlee has launched a demo site called zheye.org, from which we could see the project looks just exactly the same as Quora, from the design to features, at least at the front end. The most important thing is that Zheye is an open source project hosted on GitHub, so everybody can download the code to build their own quora alike website. The problem is that it’s developed with framework Ruby On Rails, webmasters with no professional programming skills might find it far more difficult to make it run than other PHP scripts.

Shanzhai is a phenomenon that does’t just happen at consumer electronics markets, but also exists in other industries, for example, the games industry. A Chinese gaming company showed off a game that’s called exactly Plants VS. Zombies on a game show recently hold in Guangzhou, China. The company was hardly heard of before, but now is frequently mentioned and discussed on Internet.

As you can tell easily from the pictures, this Chinese version Plants VS. Zombies looks very similar to the original. The game is also about plants defending zombies’ attack. It allows four people at most to participate together in the game. Right now it seems to just have arcade game version.

According to Chinese news portal 163.com, PopCap Games has confirmed that Shanzhai maker doesn’t have any permission from them to use Plants VS. Zombies’s design and other related things.

Baidu Tongji yesterday published Browser market share in China on its official blog. Baidu Tongji is a tool that’s similar to Google’s Analytics and widely used on China’s websites, so it definitely has enough data to carry out this report.

According to the report, in the Top 10 ranking, IE6 no surprise took the first place with 39.68% market share. This is no doubt due to pirated Window XP’s dominance in China, in which mostly the auto updater has been close off in fear of Microsoft’s punishment like the famous ‘black screen every hour’ strategy it has ever claimed to take.

A litter out of expectation is that, in the TOP 10, Google Chrome is at the 6th place, and Firefox is at the bottom. Obviously, Chrome has successfully seduced a portion of users from Firefox.

One thing needs to be pointing out is that Chinese browsers in high rank including 360 Security Browser, Sogou Browser, Tencent browser, The World, Maxthon all belong to IE family, because they all base on IE core.

IE9 had taken up 0.42% share by the day March 22, ranked at 12.

The Top 10 Ranking

IE 6.0 39.68%
360 Security Browser 18.57%
IE 8.0 15.67%
IE 7.0 9.99%
Sogou 4.47%
Chrome 2.5%
Tencent TT 1.84%
The World 1.78%
Maxthon 1.70%
Firefox 1.60%

The report is based on data on March 22.

In China, most people are poor. Even its most educated group are struggling for living. But a few are extremely rich, like this coal mine boss from China Shanxi, where these coal mine bosses are raising huge wealth, though their coal mines might be not safe enough to protect its workers’ lives.

You might think it low class, but for this coal boss, sitting in a sofa with private bodyguards around to watch waiters counting 200,000 one-yuan bills is a great way to show off his richness.

It’s said this coal mine boss always paid his bill with cash. The day he totally spent 200,000 Yuan at that restaurant but he only had 100,000 Yuan with him. The restaurant told him he could pay the rest next time, which irritated him greatly and he felt humiliated. So he send for two cars bringing 200,000 one-Yuan bills (about $30,000 USD)! The money may be not very big to you, but it’s really great work to count such an amount of 200,000 one-Yuan bills.

In just about five months this year the suicides of Foxconn Shenzhen employees has reached nice, which has make this company the center of the world’s attention, and its management to workers and rough working environment are being widely questioned.

Today a video that also leaked the company’s management problems was published on web. It happened at Foxconn’s Beijing factory. Two workers were beaten by over ten factory security guards in group, and some workers that trying to stop the beating also got beaten. The cause is a small conflict between a worker and a security guard when workers are clocking in. The latter then recalled other guards with an interphone and said ‘Somebody is making trouble’. The guards came, and without saying anything they began beating.

The video is circulating on Chinese website receiving many comments. Some that claimed to be familiar with the company said such incidents are not rare to see in Foxconn.

‘Super Boy’ is a male Idol competition in China, Which is hold every two years. Its second one just started the first selection about two weeks, but a super star has made. Cross-dressing boy Liu Zhu, a music school student majoring in composition from Sichuan, now has no rivals in winning the public’s attention. His name became the hottest search term on the biggest Chinese search engin Baidu, and topics for discussing him flood Chinese websites. All these are because of his pretty feminine looking, sweet voice, and, of curse, his talent in singing.

As you might have guessed, many doubted his gender. A rude judge with a stage name ’Anni Meigui’ ( the one in red) that is completely lacking of profession even disrupted several times his singing to question his gender and yelled ’ I doubt you are male’. She recalled Chinese netzens to flesh search Liu Zhu. (Flesh Search is a term used by Chinese netzens, which means to dig and publish a person’s personal information together on Internet). More ridiculously, she even suggested a face in face ‘gender checking’ at once, and asked Liu Zhu that he liked female or male judge to do the checking. The other two judges are more professional, especially the other female judge, who said their responsibility was to judge his singing and other things should be left to the organizers. She encouraged Liu Zhu to focus on his singing in spite of being interrupted.

At the end of video there is an interview.

Q: We saw the judge kept questioning your identity. Do you feel bad for it?

A: It’s OK, I’ve got used to it. I knew I would face questions. It’s normal.

Q: You are a boy, why you don’t dress like a boy to this selection?

A: Because I’ve dress like this since I was a child. It’s more nature to keep my dressing style. If I change my dressing for this selection especially, I think it’s very fake.

Q: I have a question. You are really a boy, but do you also dress like a girl in your daily life?

A: Oh…I don’t know how to answer your question. I dress the same way in my daily life, and I’m a real boy.

This video has viewed 2,465,743 times on youku.com in five days. Most of the comments below the video are supportive to Liu Zhu, but mad at the the rude judge Anni Meigui’s behaviors. Some said she’s trying to gain fame by acting in such an ugly way, and suggested to give her a Fresh Search.
