Beijing Apple store violent conflict

Pictures about Beijing Apple store conflict between employees and queuing customers have been circling on the web, but because of the language obstacle some English reports seem quite away from the fact. most of them said the injured customers are scalpers, but this is not confirmed by any Chinese media.

The conflict was happened around 5 PM on May 7 Beijing time. At the beginning a queue jumper caused quarrel in the queue. Security staffs were trying to keep the queue in order again, but they had physical conflict with some customers while handling this. At this time, a foreign man named John, in Apple store employee uniform, went directly to the queue from the store and beat several customers with a metal club, and then returned back to the store quickly. Irritated crowed were trying to enter the store to look for that foreign man, but were stopped by security staffs. A glass door was pushed down and broken during the confict.

four people were injured in this incident, including two women. Right now they are still in hospital for treatment, and they have to pay the fee on their own. There’s still no official statement about this incident from Apple.

We really don’t see any reason people to use them in nowadays.

Rockchip launches Android-enable chip RK2818 that supports Android 2.1

Rockchip officially launched its new generation Android platform RK2818. This chip features a 660MHZ ARM+dsp+GPU three-core processor, and is MID and phones. It supports Android 2.1, promising good performance on video that it support 720p videos,Flash, and HTML5 Video.The devices based on it could support up to 512MB RAM, and 800×480, 800×600, 1024×600 screen resolutions. It also comes with a 3G module to provide 3G connectivity that includes TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, CDMA2000 EVDO for options. In fact this is not the first time we heard about this chip. Before this official announcement, we’ve heard some manufacturers were going to bring RK2818 chip based product, like Ramos W9, and izinn cj-3 Android phone.

Rockchip RK2816 Android-enable chip for PMP

After the RK2808, The Fuzhou based company Rockchip launched another Android-enable chip RK2816. Different from RK2808 that’s designed for tablets and handsets, RK2816 is a reference solution for portable media player.That means, with a RK2816 powered PMP, you are not only able to enjoy videos and music as you did with other ordinary PMPs, but also able to play with thousands of APPs at Android Market. It’s based on a 600Mhz ARM9 processor, and supports 720p videos and HDMI output. Currently we still don’t know which version of Android it supports. Hope we could see RK2816 powered portable media players at the market soon.

Newman PhonePC is a computer that looks like a telephone set

These days phones are more and more like computers, but the Beijing based Newman is going on an opposite direction. They are trying to make a computer looks like a telephone set. This computer was showed at the just ended Taipei Computex 2010 by AMD company. At the first look at it, nobody would think it’s a computer. It features an AMD Sempron processor, AMD M690E / SB600 chipset, and ATI Radeon X1250 Graphics. It’s called PhonePC, but also titled as the world’s first x86 base phone device. No information about the OS.What AMD got there was just a prototype, and still not able to work. Whether Newman will bring it into real product is still uncertain.

Apple meets iPad trademark problem in China

Apple hasn’t decided to bring its iPad to China Mainland yet, but it seems they get trademark problem to be fixed before they do that. The iPad trademark in China currently is owned by Shenzhen Proview company, who has registered this trademark since 2000 year, for computer and camera related consumer electronics products.

According to a spokesman from Proview, the company also owned the Taiwan iPad trademark, but they already sold it to Apple last year. He also revealed that Apple thought that they would owned the China iPad trademark also after they made the deal, but in fact they didn’t.

It’s said the price Shenzhen Proview offers to Apple for China iPad trademark is $3.5 million dollars. The price is very close to the money Apple paid for the China iPhone trademark ‘i-phone’, which was owned by Hanvon company. Apple paid Hanvon $3.65 million dollars to Hanvon on July 18 last year to get this trademark.

Interestingly, a Shenzhen company called Great Loong Brother reportedly is trying to buy the China iPad trademark before Apple. The company launched a Apple-style tablet P88 in last October. When Apple launched iPad in March, Great Loong Brother even claimed Apple stole their P88′s design and were going to take law actions. Its co-founder Wu xiaolong said their company owned the iPad design patent in China, and that they were willing to pay a higher price than Apple for China iPad trademark, and welcame cooperation from Proview to sell China iPad together.
