These days phones are more and more like computers, but the Beijing based Newman is going on an opposite direction. They are trying to make a computer looks like a telephone set. This computer was showed at the just ended Taipei Computex 2010 by AMD company. At the first look at it, nobody would think it’s a computer. It features an AMD Sempron processor, AMD M690E / SB600 chipset, and ATI Radeon X1250 Graphics. It’s called PhonePC, but also titled as the world’s first x86 base phone device. No information about the OS.What AMD got there was just a prototype, and still not able to work. Whether Newman will bring it into real product is still uncertain.

Apple hasn’t decided to bring its iPad to China Mainland yet, but it seems they get trademark problem to be fixed before they do that. The iPad trademark in China currently is owned by Shenzhen Proview company, who has registered this trademark since 2000 year, for computer and camera related consumer electronics products.

According to a spokesman from Proview, the company also owned the Taiwan iPad trademark, but they already sold it to Apple last year. He also revealed that Apple thought that they would owned the China iPad trademark also after they made the deal, but in fact they didn’t.

It’s said the price Shenzhen Proview offers to Apple for China iPad trademark is $3.5 million dollars. The price is very close to the money Apple paid for the China iPhone trademark ‘i-phone’, which was owned by Hanvon company. Apple paid Hanvon $3.65 million dollars to Hanvon on July 18 last year to get this trademark.

Interestingly, a Shenzhen company called Great Loong Brother reportedly is trying to buy the China iPad trademark before Apple. The company launched a Apple-style tablet P88 in last October. When Apple launched iPad in March, Great Loong Brother even claimed Apple stole their P88’s design and were going to take law actions. Its co-founder Wu xiaolong said their company owned the iPad design patent in China, and that they were willing to pay a higher price than Apple for China iPad trademark, and welcame cooperation from Proview to sell China iPad together.

Teclast W900 is a wireless webcam from PMP manufacturer Teclast and was alleged to be the first wireless webcam in the world. It seems to be a really powerful one that could make our life better or dangerous. When you see someone holding such a webcam around you, we warn you, you have to be careful. It gets an effective distance of up to 200m, and resolutions of 5 megapixels. All you need is plug its USB receiver into your computer, and then your computer is ready to receive the pictures from it. You can enjoy your video chats with it as you do with an ordinary wired webcam. What’s more, the webcam has a built-in microphone, so you even can walk around with it while you are doing a video chat with your friends. It is powered by 4 AAA batteries, and also could be powered by an outer ordinary power source via a charger. Teclast W900 now is available in the market, but sells at a very expensive price: 799 Yuan ($117 USD) for one unit.

When Apple was still in talks with China’s carriers to bring iPhone into China, we’ve heard reports that Apple selling iPhone in China might face legal troubles in future, because the ‘i-phone’ trademark was owned by Hanvon ( also known as Hanwang) company and has been used on some telephone sets. About a month ago, The i-phone trademark was transfered to Apple, according to the information on China Trademark Office website. At that time, both sides refused to give any detail about this trademark deal. Today, Hanvon published its prospectus in China for the plan to go public on Shenzhen Stock Exchange (the SSE). The information from this document shows Hanvon and Apple signed a trademark reconciliation and transfer agreement on July 18, 2009, in which Hanvon transfered ‘i-phone’ trademark to Apple, and Apple paid $3.65 million to Havon.

About two months ago when China Unicom started to sell Apple’s iPhone in China, There’re reports said the sales of iPhone in China might meet legal troubles. The reason was that Chinese manufacturer Hanwang Technology had applied ‘i-phone’ trademark for phones in 2004. Since then the ‘i-phone’ trademark has been using on Hanwang’s telephone sets. The similarity between ‘i-phone’ and ‘iphone’ makes it might be illegal for Apple to sell iPhone in China. Right Now, It seems that Apple has solved this problem completely. The data from the official website of China Trademark Office shows that Hanwang has transfered the ‘i-phone’ trademark to Apple company. These two company both refused to give any details about this trademark deal.

Hanwang's i-phone

The trademark problem has been resolved, but Apple’s China partner China Unicom seems to still have big problems with iPhone. Last month China Unicom said they had sold 100,000 iPhones in China so far. The the situation is really not optimistic. China Unicom started to sell iPhone in late October last year, but the China Unicom version iPhone, Which is referred by some users in China as ‘ the castrated iPhone’, seems to be not attractive enough to the users, due to the lacking of Wi-Fi. Many users seeked to buy other iPhone versions that’s launched out of China from obscure channels.

Kaifu Lee, the Ex president of Google China , who also ever worked for Apple, revealed some information about the Apple tablet today through a Twitter alike microblog launched by Chinese news portal Sina.com.cn and his account on this microblog was verified. He said the information was from one of his friends. According to what he said, the Apple tablet just looked like a bigger iPhone, with a 10.1-inch multi-touch screen, and awesome user interface, and it combines the functions of a netbook and a kindle, coming with 3D technology, virtual keyboard, video conferencing, e-reader, netbook features. The Apple tablet would sell at a price of less than one thousand dollars, and Apple was planning to produce 10 millions units of this tablet at the first year.

After leaving Google in this September, Kaifu Lee launched his own startup Innovation Works, whose investors included Terry Guo, the president of Foxconn. Definitely Kaifu Lee has a good connection with Foxconn, who is rumored to assemble the Apple Tablet. So his words about the Apple Tablet might be believable.
