First MTK6516 based phone is coming, first phone to have dual core

MTK (MediaTek) is called as ‘The King of Shanzhai’ by Chinese people. The phone chipsets from this company make the mobile phone producing can have never been so easy. What a Shanzhai player do typically in Shenzhen is to make phone chassis with design copied from big brands to wrap up MTK chipsets. So every company, no matter how small it is, has the ability to churn out those kind of phones.
All the MTK chipsets based phones currently on the market are nonsmartphones. There have been reports about MTK working on a Windows Mobile enable chipset MTK6516 about a year before, but it seems the company has met problems and MTK6516 failed to come again and again. Hisilicon (owned by Huawei) took this advantage to launched its Windows Mobile enable chipset K3, which right now has been dominating the Shanzhai smartphone market in China.
Today reported by Shanzhai news website m8cool, a MTK6516 based phone is about to reach the market and its a HTC Diamond2 clone. That means the company has come over all the problems and MTK6516 chipset is finally available to Shanzhai phone makers after long delay. It’s said this MTK6516 phone will come with dual core, a 460MHz ARM9 main processor to handle system tasks, and a 280MHz ARM7 MODEM processor to handle the telephony module, packing a 3.2 inches display, Windows Mobile 6.5, 256MB RAM, 256MB ROM, 3.2-megapixel main camera and 1.3-megapixel secondary camera, Wi-Fi connectivity. This phone will hit the market soon, but still no words about the price.
