The first time we introduced ViewSonic’s VPC08 was back to last November. At that time many details were lacking and we categorized it as a xpPhone, because it runs on Windows XP. Later it turned out that this device is actually a MID/phone hybrid, and can’t be a xpPhone. The system for making phone calls is independent from the Windows XP system. it just like that ViewSonic packs an ordinary nonsmartphone and a Windows XP powered MID into a single enclosure, which also makes the device as thick as a brick.

Other specs include a 800MHZ Intel Atom Z500 processor, a MTK 6235 chipset ( for the phone system), a 4.3-inch 800×480 main display to support Windows XP and a 2-inch 240×320 display for the phone system, 512MB RAM, 8GB SSD, a 2-megalpixel camera, WAPI ( Wi-Fi compatible). It supports CDMA2000, EVDO 3G radios. VPC08 was showed on a product launch event held by ViewSonic at Beijing a day before, and the manufacturer’s recommended price was also unveiled: 4800 Yuan ($705 USD). the people on 163.com got an opportunity to play with this device and put all the things together in a video. Take a look.
